Interior Design

There is no single J. Schwartz Design “look.” The innate design abilities of every J. Schwartz Interior Design associate is complemented by a series of life experiences and appreciation for the arts, resulting in an ongoing quest for creativity and function in the home interior.

As full partners in the design process, the J. Schwartz Interior Design team asks questions and listens to your answers – then we discuss all interior design ideas thoroughly, from budget to scheduling. Every member of the J. Schwartz Design team cares personally about understanding how our clients live – and want to live – in their personal environments through room design.

Step 1: Programming

We maintain highly professional standards by consistently delivering on collaboration, creativity and value. When it comes to reflecting your personal style with room decor, we begin with questions:

  • How do you live in your home and how do you want to live in your home? What works and what doesn’t work for your lifestyle needs?
  • How long will you be staying in your home, or new home?
  • Who are the family members who will be sharing your home?
  • Do you have photos or idea books to share images of homes and spaces that appeal to you?
  • What is on your “perfect home” wish list?
  • What is your budget?
  • What are the priorities within your budget?
  • What is your project scope?
  • What is your time frame?
  • Have you ever worked with an Interior Designer before?
  • What are you looking for in a designer? What do you expect?

Step 2: Existing Conditions and Furnishings Inventory Documentation

As experienced interior designers, the goal of the J. Schwartz Interior Design team is to enhance the function, safety, and aesthetics of interior spaces. Our goal at this stage is to get a handle on how different colors, textures, furniture, lighting, and space will work together to meet the functional needs of your lifestyle alongside your vision for a comfortable, beautiful space.

  • Complete photographic documentation of interior Existing Conditions
  • Complete and exacting measurement of entire house, apartment or project-specific areas
  • Electronic documentation of Existing Conditions
  • Inventory of existing furniture (if any) to be reused, reupholstered or repurposed
  • Existing Conditions as they appear in the plan (to scale)

Step 3: Schematic Design Concepts and Preliminary Budgets

At J. Schwartz Design, we’re not about showcasing the latest interior design trends – we’re about personal and unique room designs that exude timeless beauty and function. In this phase, we typically review:

  • Inspirational montage images
  • Preliminary design concepts in the plan (to scale)
  • Pros and cons associated with each concept
  • Preliminary line-item project budget ranges associated with each concept (specific to both furniture and remodeling ranges)
  • The work required in this phase
  • Client sign off

Step 4: Design Development and More Refined Budgets

With an agreed-upon design concept for guidance, your J. Schwartz interior designer will move forward with a finished version of the plan that will bring your interior decorating and room design ideas to life. The following steps may specify final selections on materials, finishes and furnishings, including lighting, flooring, wall coverings, furniture and artwork.

  • Further develop design concepts in plan (to scale)
  • Relevant interior elevations
